I tried to sort and select and put them on Picasa but I got as far as Day Three before I pooped out…

I’m not even putting captions…

I suck, I know…

Wedding March

2008 August 26 at 10:27 pm (Adventures My Way, Geekery)

Here’s an afterthought on the wedding I thought I’d share:

I opted not to use the famous “Here Comes the Bride” from Wagner’s opera at our ceremony, especially after reading up about it and learning that the marriage in that opera is a failure.

Instead, I chose music from my favorite Japanese live action drama (to stay true to my geekiness), Hana Yori Dango.

I wish I knew how to embed the songs on here. They were really lovely.

Authentic Chinese

2008 August 26 at 12:26 pm (Uncategorized)

Our trip to Alaska really made me appreciate being born and raised in Los Angeles. I am so not a small town girl. One of the boons from being from Los Angeles is that I haven’t encountered much racial prejudice in my life. Maybe a few stereotypes here and there, like I should be good at math… but I was… so… oh well…

The building we moved into seems to house a majority of Caucasian residents. Were we the first Asians? I have no idea. But apparently, while we were gone on our honeymoon, another Asian couple moved in. As our crazy neighbor lady gushed to me, “They’re from China! Authentic Chinese!”

W-O-W.

Our manager also made it a point to tell us that the couple moved in, as if we should go knock on their door and befriend them right away. I mean, I know this kind of … what is it? … thinking? behavior? expectation? … is all over the place, in other cities, other countries but it still surprises me when I encounter it in Los Angeles. At the least, it is certainly amusing.

For my part, I have reverse racial prejudice. Precisely because they’re Asian, I do not think I will go out of my way to befriend them. The customary “hello” in the lobby that I give to all my neighbors will suffice. Besides, if they’re from China, born and raised as my neighbor tells it, we are most likely way more different than similar.

I would like a chance someday, though, to say to my crazy neighbor lady, “Guess what? A white couple moved in next door. They’re from Florida. Do you know them?” I may get that chance if I stay in this building long enough. After all, the Chinese are taking over the world! But that’s not based on prejudice or stereotype or anything like that… just a simple fact. ;P
